how old are your children? I live in Saskatoon with dks 11, 9 and 6 and could potentially suggest some fun things to do.  In the southeast part of the city (i.e. closest to SIR), your best bet for grocery stores would be Extra Foods on Boychuk Drive (entering the city from hwy 11, go east on hwy 16 and turn left at Boychuk) or the new Walmart Supercentre in Stonebridge (take Circle Drive towards downtown and exit south at Clarence avenue).

Entertainment options for those ages:

1. Putt and Bounce - corner of  8th Street and Arlington Ave. There is a mini golf, batting cages, and climbing wall. Also a Ruckers location with lots of arcade-style games (many good for the younger set too).

2. Lakewood Civic Centre on McKercher Drive ~ 1 block north of Taylor Street.  Indoor water facility with water slide, and multiple pool areas of various depths. Great for families of all ages.

3. Forestry Farm and Zoo, access off Attridge Drive (Attridge is one of the exits when travelling north on Circle Drive).  Great picnic areas, fishing pond, and of course the 'zoo' - no real exotic animals but still lots of great things to see - kids love the zoo train which is included in the cost of admission.

The above would be your best options (imo) if you don't want to travel right into or through the city.  1 and 2 are both in the southeast part of town (closest to SIR); 3 is a bit further in but very easy to get to coming from SIR direction.

thanks, this was what I was looking for...nearest Extra foods and Walmart, LOL. We are travelling the first time with a 13yo DD, 5yo DD and 5 month old DS, along with another family - two DDs 8 and 6.

sounds like the track is not that far out "in the sticks" like they usually are. At least we'll be able to find a store to reload before we head to the track! Looking forward to it - I have not been East of Medicine Hat for many years, probably 10!!
