I am trying to finish off the baby quilt for my brother and his wife.
I got a silk edge to add to the hand stitched quilt... but I can't get the silly thing on straight!
the front looked fine the back was a mess.. any hints on now to get this right???

Did you baste it in place before sewing it? If you are machine sewing it you should really try hand basting it in place first, the stuff is so slippery and the basting will keep it in the right place so much more reliably than pinning it. Also, hand basting it with a row of toilet paper lain on the part that will ride across the bed of the sewing machine will also keep it from slipping out of place. A little labour intensive for sure, but it sounds like you are working on something special enough to be worth the extra effort. Good luck and straight sewing vibes!

no i had just pinned it and it was a mess.. i will hand baste it tomorrow i think its best if i stop now or i'll just get frustated with it..
yes its special.. every baby in our family gets a quilt from me and the lace edges or the fold and rolls have been easy. but my Brother had a baby blanket he carried around and loved the silk edge right off it. I want to give his baby a silk edged blanket to love to pieces.

Yes tp, it keeps it from slipping all over the place very well. Having read your response about it though, you should really do it the way mom-on-the-go posted, it will be so pretty without the seaming top-stitched.

glue stick. glue it on, let teh glue dry and then stitch it. it doesn't shift like pins and washes out after. But wait for it to dry or it makes your needle and machine very grumpy. I'd use a decorative stitch and stitch through both layers because I'm lazy.

and I have to add...it's not the hand stitching that I'd top stitch because of but because trying to hand stitch that satin binding so none of the satin gets a pull is a real royal pain in the rump and then when the kid starts dragging it around it comes apart quicker than a good solid decorative stitch.
