Lisa says: Blogging from the office
Well, today's my second day back at work and it feels like it's been forever since I blogged from my desk (or rode the subway and put on heels).
The truth is that yesterday wasn't as terrible/horrible/awful/disastrous as I'd imagined it would be. Don't get me wrong; it was definitely hard being away from Addy all day, but I got through it, probably because it didn't hit me till last night around 10:30 that I wasn't just visiting the office to see friends. (After a bit of a cry and reassurances from Peter, I felt better.)
And while I'm thrilled (and lucky) that Addy is having the time of her life with my mom all day, I'm still jealous and hope I don't miss her first steps, first recognizable words (besides dada and maaa), etc. I know it will take time to get used to everything, but in the meantime it's kind of nice that I can go to the washroom by myself and take my time eating lunch. It's also nice that I can call my mom 50 times a day if I want to just to check up on Addy, which is what I'm doing right now...for only the second time today...so far.

Peter says: Umbrella strollers
Lisa tells me it's time to get Addyson an umbrella stroller. Silly me; I thought Addy already had a top-of-the-line stroller and would never need a new one! Lisa thinks we need something a bit more lightweight (for quick trips to the mall, etc.) and something her mother can easily carry and use when Lisa goes back to work (on Tuesday!). She reminded me that whenever Baby #2 comes along we'll need another one anyway.
We checked out a few out this weekend and I was shocked at how much these things cost! Our Bugaboo was an insane amount of money but we think it was worth every single penny (we got it as a gift and highly recommend it). I didn't think a secondary stroller could cost $300. Mind you we saw a few that were around $40, but are they any good or is it a case of you get what you pay for?
Which umbrella stroller do you use and would you recommend it?

Lisa says: Happy 1st birthday, Addyson!
Apologies for the delayed post; it’s taken us a few days to recuperate from Addy’s first-birthday festivities. It’s hard to believe that it was only a short year ago when we were at the hospital spending our first days with our new little bundle.
Peter and I thought you might like to take a look at a few snapshots from the birthday shindig we had for her this past weekend. We kept it low key and had a family pizza party with a "pink" theme. (We did the house up in pink balloons, pink streamers, pink poufs—if it was pink, we put it up.) We sang "Happy Birthday" (I almost cried), helped Addy make a wish and blow out her candle, ate cake and opened lots of presents. Here are a few of my favourite pics.
The first professional pictures of Addy. I went to Loblaws on a friend's recommendation and was really pleased. Not too expensive and got the photos the next day! I gave the grandparents a copy of the big shot and all of our party-goers went home with the wallet-size (in the corner).

The cake I made Addy. It's been a long time since I busted out my cake-decorating supplies and I'm a bit rusty on my roses, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Birthday girl.

Me and Addy pooped at the end of the party.

Addy out for a spin in her new wagon/sled (our birthday present to our little birthday girl).

Lisa says: The second one
Way back when (I believe Addy was only 40 days old—wow, that was ages ago!) I blogged about Baby Number Two and asked if you wanted to have your kids close together or far apart. I shared that Peter and I would like to have our babies close in age; 18 months to two years seemed pretty good to us.
I recently had the “So, are you trying for the second one yet?” conversation (spawned by a recent good-old-Dr.-Phil show titled “Conception Crazed”) with a friend while out for a walk with Addy and her nine-month-old daughter. While neither of us feel ready for #2 right this minute, we both admit that we worry about how long it will take to conceive the second time around. Not that we have reason to be anxious, but there are countless stories about couples who conceive in a flash the first time then end up trying for years and years to complete their family. It only took a few months before we got pregnant with Addy but it felt like ages. (In fact, at some point two months into trying, Peter very nonchalantly asked, “What’s taking so long?” Yeah, that didn’t go over well.) We know how lucky we are to have Addy, and how lucky we are that it happened so fast, but you can’t help but wonder what the second time will be like. They say every pregnancy is different, which to me also means that every conception time is different.
How long did it take you to get pregnant with your second?
